Smoke alarms

Every commercial and residential building in NSW is legally required to have working smoke alarms — but beyond compliance, they’re a critical part of everyone’s safety.

Everyone knows the importance of smoke alarms. But what you might not realise is the maintenance. It’s more than replacing the battery and testing on a regular basis. For example, the actual alarm need to be replaced every 10 years, and need to be a specific type and installed in certain locations.

Did you know since 2006, all homes in NSW, including exisiting homes are required to have at least 1 compliant working smoke detector? We install, test, and maintain smoke alarms and replace as needed, so you can sleep soundly at home knowing you’re protected.

FAQs

How to stop my home smoke alarm from beeping?

If your smoke alarm is intermittently beeping, then it will be one of two things:

  1. The battery needs replacing or,
  2. It has dust or debris caught within the sensor and will most likely need replacing

Most modern smoke alarms have fully integrated lithium ion batteries that are not replaceable and should last the life of the alarm.

How do I test if my home smoke alarm is working?

To test your smoke alarm, press and hold the test button on the front of it for 3-5 seconds until the alarm goes off. If it screams loudly then its good.

Tip: Modern smoke detectors have a built in battery which lasts 10 years but you can’t replace, ensuring you replace the alarm every 10 years. If you have an older-style detector which allows you to change the battery we recommend replacing it with a new style one.
